Biden puts his foot in his mouth all the time, which I hate, yes. He wasn't my ideal vice presidential candidate but that doesn't mean he isn't smart. He has all that nice foreign policy experience which our country so desperately needs right now. I trust him not to fuck up things too bad. I honestly thought Biden beat Palin in that debate hands down, which was surprising since I expected both of them to fuck up nicely.

The only thing people will remember Cheney for doing is shooting someone in the face. That and his connection to Halliburton. I remember reading an article or something where a person said that the VP's job is to basically to exist in case the president dies.
The stuff about McCain not being liked by his own party seems pretty accurate from my end as well. Pretty much everyone in my family is heavily conservative and I've been hearing them bitching about McCain for years. They don't like him, but they like Obama even less.
P.S: Ladies, try to play nice and don't make me infractionate any of you. This isn't a subject worth getting worked up about (or infractioned over). The way I see it, you can all argue as much as you want, but I doubt any opinions will change.

I'm conservative because I believe in keeping the money I work hard to earn. Yeah, McCain wasn't first choice, and Palin was actually what got the party excited for this election. So if you want to say nobody likes her, that's incorrect.
To quote one of my friends, I am a gun-shooting, money-loving Republican, and I'm very proud of the fact. The rest of my family has nothing to do with it, but the fact that my parents worked us from homelessness to the upper middle class with sheer determination and no college education is a large part of why I am Conservative. That's the kind of values I believe in, and Obama does not support that sort of enterprise. That's why I'm not happy about him being elected.

I support aspects of both sides. It's likely I would have voted for McCain if he wasn't pro-Iraq war. Unfortunately, the republican party has alienated me for not being Christian, so I have to go with the Democrats socially. My social feelings are stronger than my economic ones. I like the old republican party. It's just...I don't know. Bush signing that huge increase of Social Security into law totally destroyed it for me. It was a very "democrat" thing to do.
Anyways, I'm rather unsatisfied with this discussion. Can we let bygones be bygones and go back to letting this thread be a celebration of Obama's victory?

I can't resist this last comment (but it's not very provocative): it really doesn't feel like Americans have a left-wing. Your Democrats are pretty centrist compared to what we have in other countries, and even then it still feels as if everyone has room to support the policies they want regardless of party lines. A part of me almost wishes we had that in Canada, but then again, I'm a centrist... and we're all over the place. Meh...
It's great that Obama won. I think many people, particularly young ones, are really inspired by his campaign and eventual win. We're pretty hard to reach, apparently.
