Episode 103 (Finale) Discussion Thread || SUB OUT
103. Well, this is it, Divinity. SBL here, bringing you the grand finale of D.Gray-man anime. We've come so far in two years, and I know I'm not the only one who's sorry to see it go, and who hopes this isn't the final end of the story in anime.
This week's episode is titled "Resounding in the Long Morning" and with lots of luck will tie up a lot of loose ends.
In last week's blockbuster episode, Allen arrived in heroic fashion, landing overtop of Lenalee and protecting her from the Level Four for a moment. He then proceeded to fight the Level Four, but only barely; mostly, he was a decoy. Komui wondered if Allen's Innocence, which was a parastic-type body-armor, was controlling Allen and compelling him beyond his limit.
While Allen kept the Level Four occupied, Lenalee reached her Innocence and made a promise to it that she would follow it anywhere, as long as at the end, when everything was over, it let her return home to her brother. The Innocence melted in her hands, and she drank it like water.
Instead of a flawless synchronization, Lenalee instead bled out of her ankles, and Hevlaska told Komui that she sensed no Innocence inside Lenalee anymore. Allen struggled with the Level Four, but even with Lavi and Kanda's help he wasn't getting anywhere.
The blood from Lenalee's ankles coalesced into a form and she accepted the Innocence, forming her new Dark Boots. This enabled her to arrive in time to save Allen from being killed by the Level Four, and she managed to save Allen again when the Level Four tried to obliterate them both. Then they teamed up, and laid the smackdown on the Level Four.
As the episode closed, Allen drove his sword at the Level Four, who was pinned to the ground, while Lenalee leaped high in the air and came down on the hilt with force, driving the sword into Level Four and defeating it. But Level Four was not completely done, as its hand twitched...
And remember kiddies!

Ah, I just watched 103 today, and it was so rushed! I'm not really satisfied with the ending at all. Although, I did enjoy seeing everyone in the new uniform (especially Kanda and all his smexyness ...)!
It's too bad that the tv ratings weren't high. I think it was because the ratings looked pathetic compared to Naruto, Bleach, and One piece. God damnit! DGM is so much better than those series
I agree, it was so rushed. But it ended in a way if by some miracle they decide to make the rest, they'll have to problem tying up the ends... So is it confirmed, that it ended and isn't on hiatus?
I still can't understand people! how those crappy Naruto fillers or that sucked Shippuuden is better than DGM? or have you noticed in One Piece from it's 23 min airing time, less than 15 min is the new ep, the rest is recap of the previous one
I think it's all Hoshino's fault, for taking this many breaks and writing manga with 15 pages for a while,... it all caused popularity of DGM dropped noticably.

That's pretty harsh, to blame Hoshino for the anime's failings. For one thing, she's been sick, and we don't know that the fifteen page chapters were her idea or if she was pigeon-holed by WJ into it. And really, the story is plenty popular, it's not her fault the anime failed to pull in the numbers they wanted it to.

[21:54] Kalorii: Yeah, well. When they grate on your nerves, you end up calling them whatever. XD
While I admit that DGM is so popular that has over 100 anime eps, I still believe that it wasn't that popular to compete with low quality Naruto Shippuuden anime or One Piece.
All I see is when a manga is super popular, they'll make as many eps as they can, even if they kill quality over quantity, and unfortunately people do watch them,... I'm really sorry for them
Hoshino's sickness ,slacking off, really damaged DGM popularity, I was at the verge of quiting at that 5 weeks break (and at that critical point of the story), I really had no hope if it was going to continue. and after that we had 15-page chapters (I heared it was because of her sickness, either hiatus or less pages) and now you see every now and then breaks.... it's really frustrating.
who knows maybe it will come back due to popular demand....I'LL WAIT FOR YOU DGM!
the "fin" has made me think that it may not be coming back this spring...but we'll all find out or not....

I believe the 5 week hiatus was because she was either extremely ill (as in, hospitalized), or had a broken wrist. Either way, she couldn't work. It's not fair to blame her for something out of her control. I'm pretty sure she didn't break her wrist deliberately, nor did she contract whatever she's sick with deliberately.

Ahh, the ending was so epic. But it REALLY can't be done, can it? I mean, we didn't even get to hear Sheryl's voice, not to mention the obvous reason that the manga's farther than where it left off, and finally it left at a cliffhanger. Don't get me wrong, if that was the real ending, I don't mind that much cuz it was really awesome (and I got to see Road again ), but it was rushed, yeah. We'll just have to hope it comes back.
Or we could all band together and try to get them to go on with it.
P.S. Will we be getting screenshots for this episode?

On a whole, I'm quite sad that the series had ended but I'm keeping my hopes that it'll be continued soon. Though, Wednesday is going to be a bore from now on, and the anticipation for the next manga chapter is going to be painful. Previously, it is because of the anime that the wait to Friday doesn't seemed so long
On the episode itself, even though it deleted a lot of scenes, I thought it was okay to watch. The quality was top-notch, that's for sure and the story didn't feel rush despite the lack of certain scenes.
My only complaint is that they didn't have to show Tyki at the ball twice in one episode, as those few minutes could have used for something else (like say, the part where all the Exorcist shiver at the thought of blood, or Lavi being upset about leaving, or even the part where Kanda and Allen were beating the crap out of each other ). Basically, the cut out all the humour. Oh, another part which I didn't like was where Allen took Marie's words - about how the Earl could have destroyed a small organisation like the Black Order, I know they had to shine some limelight to Allen just moments before the anime end, but still...
But minus all that, it was a good episode, and my heart sunk when I saw Fin at the end

I WON'T BELIEVE IT'S THE END!!
I believe this episode was one of the very best though. The teamwork, and the Generals' return. And it was so cute that Tim insisted on following them on the attack. x'''D
I don't understand how it can have lower rating than Naruto and Bleach and all that though. DGM is sooo much better. I really don't get it.
I won't believe it's the end. I'll keep my hopes up.
Though of course, if it does prove to be the end, I'll just stick to the manga and hope they'll maybe continue it one day.

Naruto manga is still kinda tolerable but the anime got worse by the day until I stopped watching it But that's what the general population wants I guess
Somehow I still can't think as episode 103 as the end, seriously. It just seems, so vague, basically the characters got nowhere apart from the Innocence level ups with Allen and Lenalee. We haven't found the heart or what happens with the Earl and the fight fight nor what's under Lavi's eyepatch (I swear I'll stalk Hoshino-san and bite her if she never tell us what is under the eyepatch). It's too cliffhangery, that it smells continuation
But if it is the end, it's the end, sounds like Groove Adventure Rave where you have 51 episodes of crap, same with Zombie-Loan, it just ends, nothing's explained and the characters haven't gotten anywhere. But when you really look at things, the manga is only like 10 or so chapters away from where the anime has ended, so maybe instead they're taking a break so that there's enough plot to continue. Another thing that concerned me about the ended, Lavi's last sentence is, "Not another war." So it makes me wonder if he's on his 50th alias there, if so, why is he still in his exorcist uniform, (which is hot btw xD)
I'm hoping the manga gets a little interesting for the time being as well.
sadly... i'm beginning to think that maybe it really is the end. they can't just pull it off because it didn't get enough views that's unfair. But the way it ended i don't think it's coming back next year.

The end didn't shattered our hopes but honestly it wasn't promising either.
But I can't get it, if they wanted to end it, they could do it in a better point of the manga, either after Ark arc or after Cross arc. Ark was better because it has a sence of victory in it. but here... really what are they thinking, if they can think ?

Maybe it was recently decided that they'd cancel it and decided it'd be best to finish the whole level 4 fight before doing it. I dunno.
I still won't believe it ended though.
Dem: It appears so.

I don't think it's the end yet since for those who don't read the manga, that ending left it with no explaination of 1. what the Earl meant and who Sheryl is. 2. what would happen to Allen because he is the 14th's host. and 3. who is Kanda is searching for (even though the manga didn't explain all of those yet either). There is also probably other stuff they didn't finish talking about. But overall we'll have to wait and see
